Q 106.1 Classroom Superstars

Q 106.1’s first Classroom Superstar of the year was Mr. Brent Whelan’s Broadcast Media class from Nichols Career Center in Jefferson City.

Mr. Brent Whelan: “My Broadcast Media students work diligently on a daily basis to apply professional communication and technical skills, along with journalistic standards, as they research and put together news stories for their online news program. They are a highly motivated and respectful staff. I count myself lucky to have them in my classroom. One of the best in my 26 years of teaching! Check it out at NicholsStudentNews.com.”

Our second Q106.1 Student Superstar was Lydia Siebert from Our Lady of the Lourdes Interparish School in Columbia.

She was nominated by school counselor Julia Heilich: “As a school counselor, I spend hours upon hours teaching my students the importance of character. In our classrooms, on our sports teams, and in the community, I encourage students to be kind. When I reflect on my four years at OLLIS, Lydia Siebert comes to mind. Lydia is now entering that pre-teen phase of life, when peers become much more important than what adults think. And yet, Lydia is kind to all. She exudes respect, Christlike behavior, integrity and compassion. She says hello when you pass her in the hallway. She includes fellow classmates if they felt left out of a group. She acts as a true role model for her little sister, Kennedy.
Lydia is a 5th grade superstar. Not just because she is smart, hardworking and polite, but because she is beautiful inside and out. It is an honor to nominate her for this recognition and even more so to have her as an OLLIS student.”

Alyssa Trachsel, 5th grader from Our Lady of the Lourdes Interparish School was nominated by her teacher Ms. Tiffany Benson.

Ms. Benson: “Alyssa has a selfless heart. She is always looking for opportunities to help others. As we were walking back to the classroom yesterday, she saw a woman in the flowerbeds trying to get some garbage out from underneath a bush. Alyssa could see that she was struggling and she immediately offered to crawl under and get it. It is wonderful to see a student who is so ready and willing to sacrifice herself for others.”
